point of no return

December 23, 2010

December 23, 2010

So we did it. We announced our retirement to the company in March.

Those who have spent several years in the warm bosom of an international corporation react to this act with either complete understanding or complete misunderstanding. There are a lot of people we like in both camps.

We just made the decision to go our own way. One of us had a very handy dream,  , which has lain idle for many years, but is still viable. The other one, me, doesn't have the perfect image, but it's a matter of searching.

I must say right away - we are not downshifters! We do not plan to live in noble poverty. We are serious about success. But only in the area that heats itself. And we also have two children, which in itself is such a reality check. I want to run this blog for all of you who want to know how we are doing. In it, I will tell you what the search for yourself looks like in practice. How big a dream can be planned and divided into manageable chunks.

We should have enough money for a year, maybe a year and a half. We have no other sources of income. If we don’t start earning in a new role, in a new area, in other words, if we don’t succeed urgently, that’s it, "khana", we will return to where we started.

We have no connections in Europe either. There is an old family friend who lives in Paris. There will be someone to drink wine with sometimes.

We don't have apartments in Moscow to rent out and live on. We are starting from scratch. But we do not consider ourselves poor. We sold everything we didn't need, plus we didn't spend as much as usual, plus we earned annual bonuses.

We don't have French yet, but that won't stop us on our way to Paris. We will learn. We have English, and this is enough for the start.

In fact, we do not know what we will end up with. And the more interesting. Romka dreamed of becoming a chef of French cuisine all his life. And the acceptance letter for Le Cordon Bleu Paris is in my pocket. I — … I don't know who I am yet. I am a former HR and Talent Manager. And who is the future?… I think I can answer this question.

An experiment called “Live where you like and do what you believe in” - tadaaam! starts! (starts March 15, 2011). In the meantime, there is still a lot to be done in this reality.
